Kraft Paper Laminated Bags — Paper Shelf Appeal With Film Performance Underneath

Kraft laminate solves a specific contradiction: consumers read paper as natural and premium, but paper alone cannot seal, barrier or survive the supply chain. Our kraft laminated structures bond kraft paper to a functional film layer — recycled PE or PP — so the pack looks like paper and performs like engineered packaging. The film layer can carry 30–100% PCR content under GRS certification, keeping the sustainability claim structural, not cosmetic.

Fit check

Where Kraft Paper Laminate Performs — and Where It Doesn't

Strong fits

  • Gift and premium retail bags — the natural kraft surface elevates perceived value without rigid-box cost; see gift bag programmes.
  • Coffee, tea, dry food and snacks — combined with zipper closures and optional valves; for oxygen-sensitive recipes we add a barrier layer or move to coex structures. See food packaging.
  • Food-adjacent and takeaway packaging — grease tolerance for baked and dry goods.
  • Branded e-commerce packaging — paper outside for unboxing feel, film inside for moisture protection; see branded packaging.

Honest limitations

— Not fully plastic-free: the sealant film is essential to function. We state this plainly so your claims team can word the pack correctly ("paper-based laminate with recycled film layer").

— Not suitable for liquid fill or retort; for those, use multi-layer coex.

— High-humidity warehousing can affect the paper layer over long periods — specify film weight accordingly.

Evidence

Sustainability Position — Stated Precisely

  • Film layer with 30–100% PCR content, certified under GRS Scope Certificate TE-00057717 (Textile Exchange portal verifiable)
  • Substituting 1 t of virgin PE with recycled content avoids roughly 2.6 t CO₂e (industry estimate)
  • Documentation aligned to EU PPWR 2030/2040 reporting and UK packaging rules
  • If your claim requires industrial compostability rather than recycled content, evaluate our PLA option — we will tell you honestly which claim survives scrutiny in your market

Buyer questions

Frequently Asked Questions

No — and we advise against it. The film layer is what makes the bag sealable and moisture-resistant. The accurate claim is a paper-based laminate, optionally with certified recycled content in the film layer. We help your compliance team word claims that survive UK and EU green-claims scrutiny.

Yes. Clear film windows, press-to-close zippers, tin-ties and degassing valves are all standard converting options. Window placement affects the barrier locally — our engineers will flag any shelf-life implication before production.
